One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today. Dale Carnegie

Some times you have to stop and smell the roses. One should not get so caught up in everyday life to the point where we miss out. One can miss out on the smallest of things due to stress and other daily obstacles. I know how stressful my day can be so I try my best to enjoy every moment whether its observing my surrounding or turning all the way up. Each day includes many different roles: wife, mother, educator, daughter, friend, mentor, coach, support and more. There are times where I can go an entire day without saying anything other than what I am programmed to say. So my conversations were literally about work, my son and house duties….no fun at all. I love talking about those things but sometimes you have to unplug and view your surrounding through a different lens. Social media and those topics were taking over my life and it was time for me to step out of my comfort zone.
I recently took a girls trip to the oh so colorful city of New Orleans. This city is filled with lots of fun and historical things to do. Although this was not my first time going I wanted to make sure that I captured the city on camera. My friend and I took moments out of the day to take a few photos along the way. On this trip we took a Katrina tour and view the new renovated city. I was so mesmerized by the history that I did not take pictures. I captured a few images that made me realize that I have missed moments in time where scenes were naturally set and not captured.
The Wall That Smile Back
I suffer from RBF :). If you know what RBF stands for you can understand my pain LOL. Resting bitch face, also known as RBF or bitchy resting face, is a term for a facial expression (or lack thereof) which unintentionally appears angry, annoyed, irritated, or contemptuous. Whether happy, hungry, thinking, bored, sad, upset my face looks the same at first glance. I really have to be dying laughing or ugly face crying for my facial expression to change. I have always been this way at first glance but once you meet me you will think differently. Some people at first glance think that I am uninviting and therefore do not give our conversation a fighting chance. So with that, I wanted to make an effort to smile and be more inviting so others are open to conversation. This is not because I need friends or lack thereof, this is because we are all faced with situations. Situations that can be changed or blessed with a smile from a stranger. Have you ever been down on your luck and see a happy smiling person and felt the energy they gave off? Smile and the world will smile back at you.
Loving energy vibrates at a higher frequency while darker energy vibrates at a lower frequency. The happier the energy, the higher the frequency. This is all part of the Great Creator’s design for the human experience, known as “The Polarity of Life.”
Here is a wall of smiles in the middle of the city that has the best food, entertainment, drinks and clearly never sleeps. This piece of art was apart of a construction site next to our hotel but spoke a million words. How can one live without some form of happiness. I realized that my day cannot consist of stress and tasks. I should take time out to think about the people that I love and the blessing that I have been given. The first time I went to the wonderful city I was around 15 years old playing in a volleyball tournament. I was in a gym for 8 hours a day for three days and never saw a thing. LOL I was a young athlete and had NO idea what NOLA had to offer. But here my friend and I stopped and smiled back and caught it all in photos!
Some Like to Party BUT I Love to Eat
The second time I went my husband and I literally ate until we couldn’t eat anymore. We visited a few restaurants that are worthy of a shout out. Stanley’s Restaurant had the best breakfast hands down. I ordered the boudin and the banana fosters french toast. I held hands with my boo and ate all that I could without judgement. We also stood in line at The Ruby Slipper…we actually had a reservation at one location and went to the wrong one. We stood in line for an hour but it was cool because we were together. 🙂
AMAZING to say the least. We ate what we wanted to, did what we enjoyed all on our schedule. We both love to cook and enjoy trying new places where ever we travel too.
Fast forward to 2016 on our girls trip….we did a lot of eating and I was taking it all in. I took time to appreciate all that the city had to offer. We toured the city with Nola City Lights and I looked at things totally different than I have before. It was almost like the cardio enhanced my other senses LOL. My legs were hurting but I wanted to push harder and faster so I could see more. The tour was amazing and we traveled 12.2 miles in the French Quarter. My friend and I also toured New Orleans on a Katrina themed bus tour. We heard the history of the city and saw the areas that were once under water. I was amazed by the homes and all of the work that went into building the city. So many lost their lives but the spirit of the city still lives.
Take time out to enjoy the scenes that are set everyday….stop and smell the roses. There is time for it all but open your eyes and take a look at what is around you.
Take a look at what I saw once I unplugged from social media and took time out to appreciate the world around me:
